South Africans have little faith in the criminal justice system

South Africans do not trust police to deal with crime and the courts to prosecute and convict perpetrators.

This sentiment is recorded in the Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) Victims of Crime Survey released by the Statistician General, Pali Lehohla, on Thursday.

 

Between 2011 and the 2016/17 financial year satisfaction with police conduct continued to decrease.

The same trend is recorded when it comes to the way courts deal with perpetrators.

"There is a serious problem around how society feels about the criminal justice system," admits Lehohla.

Jacaranda FM News took to the streets to find out why people have lost trust in police and the courts.

One woman says her aunt was killed inside her home a couple of years ago, but the murderer is still roaming the streets.
