'Springs Monster' back in court
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
The man known as the 'Springs Monster' is due to go on trial alongside his wife in the High Court in Pretoria on Monday.
The man was arrested in 2014 after his 11-year-old son sounded the alarm that he and his four siblings were being kept in a basement in the so-called 'house of horrors'.
The couple, who can't be named to protect the identities of their children, face 21 charges relating to abuse, rape and the possession and dealing in drugs.
The trial was previously postponed as the husband was under psychiatric observation at Weskoppies Hospital.
A report by the hospital found he is fit to stand trial and that he was able to distinguish between right and wrong when allegedly committing the crimes.
