St David's matrics bag 100% pass rate

Matriculants at St David's Marist Inanda in Sandton are overjoyed after achieving a 100% pass rate.

The all-boys school had 117 pupils write the Independent Assessment Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate examinations.
The boys scored 196 distinctions across 19 subjects.
For the second year running one of the school's pupils managed to achieve 100% in maths, with 43.4% of the students scoring a distinction in the subject.

The school's principal, Mike Thiel, says the pupils have been rewarded for their hard work.
"It's those little pockets of excellence and success that brought the 100%. The boy that pushed himself to get above a certain level or the boy who made the wrong subject choice, who really struggled but pushed himself over the edge to do well at the end. Our top matriculant got 100% for maths. In that type of result, for every 100% maths there are a whole lot of boys who have pushed past maths, or to get their 60's. Or even just into their A's as well. Its those critical elements of working hard that we celebrate today."
The matriculants say they are excited about the future.
The Department of Basic Education will release the National Senior Certificate (NSC) results on Thursday.
