Stage 6 loadshedding to kick off the short work week
Eskom is stepping up loadshedding from this afternoon, upping the dreaded power cuts back to Stage 6.
The embattled power utility says this is due to the delay in returning nine generation units to service.
Announcing the plan for the short work week ahead on Monday, Eskom’s Crisis Communication Manager, Menzi Mngomezulu, said stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented throughout the day on Tuesday until 4pm, followed by stage 6 from 4pm until 5am on Wednesday morning.
Various stages of loadshedding will then be rolled out for the rest of the week.
Mongomezulu says the delays in returning a unit to service at Arnot, Camden, Duvha, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Matimba, Matla and Tutuka power stations contributed to the current capacity constraints.
"The team is working around the clock to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible," he adds.
Breakdowns at Eskom are currently at 17 920MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3 412MW.
