The notice was published in the government gazette by Dlamini-Zuma on Saturday, hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on the possible easing of the lockdown regulations.

The extension of the State of Disaster means any new regulations announced by President Ramaphosa on Saturday evening will be legal.

It’s been five months since the National State of Disaster was announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the end of March.

Government has imposed very strict regulations to curb the spread of Covid-19, which includes curfews and the banning of the sale of alcohol and tobacco products.

However, the lockdown might be eased on Saturday night as it has been widely anticipated that Ramaphosa will move the country to level 2.

This will allow more sectors of the economy to open and could see the ban on the sale of alcohol and tobacco products be lifted.
