State to oppose bail for Coligny accused
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) intends opposing the bail application of two men accused of killing a teenage boy in Coligny near Lichtenburg.
Two farmers are expected to apply for bail at the Coligny Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The two are accused of killing Matlhomola Jonas Mosweu on 20 April, at Scotland informal settlement in Tlhabologang, after accusing him of stealing sunflowers from their field.
His death sparked a violent protest in the area.
Three houses and three trucks were torched.
NPA spokesperson Frank Lesenyego says they will oppose bail due to the violence in the area.
"If they are released on bail and protests continue, they may abscond from court, saying they fear for their lives," said Lesenyego.
