Steenkamp parents to oppose Pistorius parole
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The parents of the late Reeva Steenkamp are set to oppose the granting of parole to her killer Oscar Pistorius.
The former Paralympian star, who shot and killed his girlfriend in February 2013, is expected to appear before the parole board in Pretoria on Friday.
Pistorius will make his bid for freedom before the parole board at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Tshwane.
The hearing will decide whether Pistorius is eligible for release on parole after serving half of his 15-year sentence.
Tania Koen, who is the legal representative for June and Barry Steenkamp, says Reeva's parents are opposed to the granting of parole to their daughter's killer.
"I can confirm that the parole board will convene tomorrow (Friday) to consider the placement of Oscar Pistorius on parole.
"I can also confirm that June will be making presentations on behalf of herself and Barry Steenkamp, her husband, and they will be opposing the parole."
