The Department of Water and Sanitation says the Vaal Dam has reached 100% of its capacity thanks to the recent summer rainfall.
On Sunday morning the Vaal dam level was at 102.4%, which is a 2% rise from 100.4% on Saturday.
Spokesperson Sputnik Ratau says this will help going into the dry winter season.
“This is very encouraging because it means that the Integrated Vaal River System is receiving quite good inflows from the catchment and therefore water supply to the heartland of economic activities of South Africa will continue unabated.
“We have seen good rains in other parts of the country as well, we still have concerns over places like Limpopo and Eastern Cape, but on a general basis we are seeing a better performance compared to last year.”
