This follows the publication of photos of strippers entertaining inmates at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre ("Sun City").

Acting National Correctional Services Commissioner James Smalberger says a preliminary investigation revealed that a June 16 Youth Day event was held at prison on 21 June at the Johannesburg Medium B Correctional Centre.

"It transpired that the form of entertainment as shown in social media was not approved and not in line with correctional services policies and procedures, which are clear in terms of appropriate clothing and behaviour when inside a correctional environment," says Smalberger.

Smalberger says there was a clear breach of security and this type of conduct is unacceptable.

"Preliminary findings indicated that at least 13 officials will be served with letter of contemplation of suspension. The investigation is being led by a senior official on the level of a director who is not from the Johannesburg management area," says Smalberger.
