Suspect arrested for murder of Gqeberha prosecutor Tracy Brown
The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have arrested a 33-year-old man linked to the murder of state prosecutor Tracy Brown.
Brown was gunned down in front of her partner and child outside her home in Gqeberha last month.
The assassination is believed to be linked to Brown’s recent work on cases looking into government corruption.
According to the Hawks, the suspect fled to Johannesburg shortly after the incident.
Spokesperson Avele Fumba said information was received on Thursday that the suspect was travelling back towards Gqeberha.
“Acting with precision, the team strategically coordinated a roadblock in the early hours of 21 August 2025. The suspect’s vehicle was intercepted, and he was successfully apprehended,” said Fumba.
“The 33-year-old suspect is currently in custody and is scheduled to make his first court appearance in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he will face charges relating to the assassination of a female state prosecutor.”
