Police have made a breakthrough in their investigation and arrested a suspect in connection with a deadly drive-by shooting in Reiger Park on Johannesburg’s East Rand.
Six people were killed, and three others were wounded on Saturday.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said members of the anti-gang unit apprehended the 23-year-old in the area on Monday night.
"He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday," she said.
In a separate incident, the team also arrested a 62-year-old man for possession of drugs. The suspect was stopped and searched when found in possession of 14 ziplock bags containing methcathinone, 43 tablets of mandrax and 105 halves of mandrax tablets.
The Gauteng Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana, applauded the team for their relentless efforts and further thanked the community for their cooperation.
