A man has been arrested for the possession of illegal explosives near the Beitbridge Border Post in Limpopo.
The 39-year-old suspect was nabbed on Friday night by members of the South African National Defence Force who were patrolling at the border fence.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Hlulani Mashaba, says the SANDF intercepted two suspects carrying large bags.
"Upon noticing the officials, the suspects dropped the bags and fled in different directions. One suspect was swiftly apprehended, while the other managed to escape.
"A search of the abandoned bags led to the discovery of explosives, including 25 Carmex safety fuses and 125 blasting cartridges," he said
The suspect, a foreign national, is expected to appear before the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday
