Suspected robber to appear in court
A man suspected of being part of robbers who followed people from the OR Tambo International Airport and robbed them upon reaching their destinations would appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The 36-year-old was spotted by the police while driving a hijacked luxury car in the area around the airport on Saturday, said spokesman Vish Naidoo.
”The team spotted a Mercedes Benz whose description fitted that of a vehicle suspected of being used by men who followed unsuspecting victims from the airport. Background checks on the vehicle revealed that it had been hijacked in April this year in Germiston.”
” It was also established that the suspect was wanted in connection with at least three armed robbery cases, and that he was a seasoned criminal with previous convictions of murder, armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms under his belt.”
Naidoo said the man was travelling alone in the car during the arrest.
He would face charges of armed robbery in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court. -ANA
