Suspended deputy head of Crime Intelligence Feroz Khan dismissed
The South African Police Service has confirmed the dismissal of Major General Feroz Khan from the organisation.
Khan, who served as the deputy head of Crime Intelligence, was deemed dismissed in terms of Regulation 9(7)(b) of the SAPS Discipline Regulations after failing to appear before the designated senior officer handling his expedited disciplinary process.
In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, national police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the dismissal forms part of the organisation’s commitment to enforcing accountability and discipline across all ranks.
"No member, regardless of rank or position, is above the law or the applicable disciplinary framework," she said.
The dismissal comes amid ongoing legal proceedings involving Khan and his continued absence from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Khan had been expected to testify before the commission, but his appearance was postponed after his legal representatives cited his health as grounds.
The commission has since imposed conditions on any further postponement, including an independent medical assessment to establish whether Khan is medically fit to testify. His testimony has been rescheduled for 28 September, subject to the outcome of that assessment.
Khan has also faced disciplinary proceedings within the SAPS. His urgent application to stop the disciplinary process was struck off the Labour Court roll shortly before his dismissal, clearing the way for the police service to proceed.
SAPS has not provided further details on the specific disciplinary allegations in its latest statement, stating that the matter is the subject of legal proceedings.
The police service said it will continue to respect and abide by court decisions and will provide further information where legally permissible.
Khan's dismissal comes as scrutiny of Crime Intelligence and senior police leadership intensifies through the Madlanga Commission, which is investigating allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption within South Africa's criminal justice system.
Despite his dismissal from SAPS, Khan's involvement in the commission and other legal proceedings remains ongoing.
