AMY-LEIGH SUSPECTS

Tharina Human and Laetitia Nel are expected to enter into an agreement with the state for their role in the 2019 abduction.

The pair made a brief appearance in the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday, alongside two other co-accused, Pieter van Zyl and Bofokeng Molemohi.

Six-years old at the time, De Jager was grabbed outside Kollegepark Primary School and returned to her family 24 hours later.

Human’s lawyer David Mey says he cannot reveal the terms of the plea bargain.

“At this stage I do not want to disclose. We have not started with the proceedings as yet so I do not want to disclose anything in that regard,” says Mey.

2 Gauteng police officers in court for corruption, extortion

The duo, who form part of a group of five police officers who were arrested, appeared in court on Monday. Warrant Officer Sanku Lovemore Mofokeng (46) and 39-year-old Seargent Daniel Makanyana Podile are accused of attempting to extort R200 000 from a Gauteng resident in February.

The matter has been postponed to Thursday.

“The reason being that the advocate who was appointed on behalf of legal aid board for accused umber 3 and 4 received late last week instructions. He could not consult with the accused in Leeuwkop Prison and therefore on Monday he started to consult,” Mey explains.

“He’s still busy with the consultations for accused 3 and 4 and to consider what is the way forward for accused 3 and 4. Either they enter into a plea agreement in terms of Section 105 (a) of the Criminal Procedure Act or to plea in terms of section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Act and/or to proceed with the trial.”

Human is said to have orchestrated the abduction.
