Teaching to resume in Joburg south

Teaching and learning is expected to resume at various
schools in the south of Johannesburg following a meeting between Gauteng
education and teachers union Sadtu on Tuesday.
Last week educators from the union withdrew from various schools in the south, complaining of racism.
The union has now agreed to go back to school following an undertaking from the department to put security measures in place.
"The department has appointed an acting principal at the school who will be assisted by three officials from head office," says GDE spokesperson Steve Mabona
The community has also agreed to stop protesting outside the school.
-School Shooting-
Meanwhile, the department says it has offered counselling after a deputy principal was shot inside a school in Ekhuruleni on Tuesday.
It is alleged about 3 armed men went to Edalinceba Primary, claiming they want to fix an electrical problem.
They then shot and killed the deputy principle in the school’s office.
"This criminal act in our school is shocking and is likely to traumatise everyone in the school. Our schools are turning out to be a hunting environment for criminals," says Mabona
The department also called on police to maintain a presence at the school.
