The bail application of a 14-year-old girl arrested in connection with the assault of Lufuno Mavhunga has been granted.

The Thohoyandou Children’s Court in Limpopo granted the minor R1500 bail on Thursday following her arrest over two weeks ago.
She faces a charge of assault for the brutal, public assault of the late Lufuno Mavhungu who died of suicide following the incident seen on a viral video on social media.
“The state opposed the bail looking at the seriousness of the offence even though we are dealing with the child who conflicts with the law. Remember that the defence wanted the child to be released under the custody of her guardian, however the court felt that bail must be fixed at R1500,” said regional spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.
Bail conditions include the minor not to interfering with witnesses and not traveling outside Limpopo without the knowledge of her investigating officer.
“The case is remanded to 27 May 2021 for further investigations.”
