Ten Gauteng schools receive 'above capacity' applications

The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed that ten schools have received applications numbers above their capacity in the first day of the 2019 online registration process.
They are:
ALBERTON HIGH SCHOOL: 4151
NORTHCLIFF HIGH SCHOOL: 4053
BOKSBURG HIGH SCHOOL: 3797
HOËRSKOOL AKASIA: 3567
SIR JOHN ADAMSON HIGH SCHOOL: 3488
RAND PARK HIGH SCHOOL: 3444
HOËRSKOOL PRESIDENT: 3443
MONDEOR HIGH SCHOOL: 3300
HOËRSKOOL GERRIT MARITZ: 3069
PRETORIA HIGH SCHOOL FOR GIRLS: 3029
The department’s Steve Mabona says most of the top ten high schools are only able to accommodate some 300 pupils.
"It is important to note that the capacity of our schools will not be anything above 300 spaces.”
The online application process, which is on its second day, has seen an increase in application numbers since it opened on Monday.
"The department received and processed a total number of 289 370 applications,” says Mabona.
"It must be noted that for Grade 1 makes up 136 854 of the applications while and Grade 8 make up a total of 152 516 applications received.”
Applicants have until midnight on July 22 to apply for placement.
