The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has confirmed that Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, who is alleged to be linked to Minister Senzo Mchunu, was found with a cellphone at the Kgoši Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria.
Matlala has been held in the Kgosi Mamapuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria, while he awaits the conclusion of the case in which he's been charged with the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend Tebogo Thobejane.
His name is also in headlines after he was named by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, of being linked to Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
Matlala is said to have been found in possession of the cell phone on Sunday, hours after Mkhwanazi made the explosive allegations during a press conference.
"Correctional services confirm that Vusimuzi Matlala was transferred to C-max at Kgosi Mampuru following the discovery of an illegal item, a mobile phone to be specific, which was in his possession during the raid that was conducted over the weekend," confirmed DCS spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo.
