Testimony in Senzo Meyiwa trial to start on Monday

The murder trial of the five men accused of killing former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa officially began in the High Court in Pretoria on Friday.

Muzi Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli all pleaded not guilty to all charges before judge Tshifhiwa Maumela.


Meyiwa was shot and killed in Vosloorus in 2014.


In his opening presentation, prosecutor George Baloyi said the state will be leading arguments with evidence and exhibits from the scene where Meyiwa was shot.


The statements contain details of how the accused stormed the Vosloorus home during a house robbery on the night of Meyiwa’s death.


It also details the moments leading to the fatal shooting of Meyiwa in the chest.


Oral evidence will be heard from the first police officers on the scene, investigators, forensic pathology expert, ballistics expert, DNA samples, cell phone data of the accused, and witnesses who were in the house when the shooting happened.


The first witness is expected to testify on Monday.
