Third suspect in Nathaniel Julies murder to remain behind bars

The third suspect linked to the shooting of 16-year-old Nathaniel Julies appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

The police officer will now join his two co-accused in court next week when they are expected to apply for bail.



The 16-year-old Julies was shot and killed in Eldorado Park last week, allegedly by the police, although authorities claimed that he was caught in the crossfire between gangs.


During his brief appearance in court, detective Vorster Netshiongolo was charged with murder, defeating the ends of justice and being in possession of prohibited ammunition.



"The third accused appeared before the court today, has been remanded in custody for legal representation. The accused will appear in Protea Magistrate’s Court on the 10 September," says the spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) Ndileka Cola.

Simon Ndyalvana and Caylene Whiteboy appeared at the Protea Glen Magistrate's Court on Monday morning. The pair are being charged with murder, discharging a firearm in public, possession of ammunition and defeating the administration of justice. The matter was remanded for further investigation and for Caylene to obtain legal representation.
