Updated | By Neo Motloung
Two female and one male doctor were shot and wounded in what police suspect was a robbery at their residences next to the Letaba Hospital in Limpopo, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
It is alleged five heavily armed suspects entered the hospital and shot the three doctors while robbing the premises.
The MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, rushed to the hospital, where she says one of the female doctors is in a very critical condition and currently undergoing surgery.
"The two other doctors are stable. Otherwise, we are worried about the life of this doctor," says Ramathuba.
Ramathuba says she is concerned about the impact of increasing violent crimes on service delivery at rural hospitals and clinics across Limpopo.
"We just recruited specialists in this particular hospital. I don't know how we are going to convince them to stay in this environment, because nobody would really want to risk their lives in other to save another."
