Three SABC journalists to appear before disciplinary hearing
Three senior SABC journalists have been charged for allegedly leaking internal information to the media.
The journalists - Krivani Pillay, Jacques Steenkamp and Busisiwe Ntuli - were called to a meeting on Thursday to appear before a disciplinary hearing on Friday.
The Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union president Hannes du Buisson dismissed media reports that the journalists have been suspended.
"Our members were not suspended, they were given charge sheets. The charge sheets state they should appear before a disciplinary hearing on Friday," he said.
A letter by the journalists was circulated on social media and published by media outlets last week.
In the letter addressed to SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng, the trio expressed their discontent with the new editorial policy.
Du Buisson said the letter was leaked by someone else.
"Our members did not give the letter to the media. It was leaked by someone else," he said.
Du Buisson says the union will request a postponement of the disciplinary hearing, as the SABC scheduled the hearing on short notice.
"The SABC's disciplinary code makes provision for a 24-hour notice for a disciplinary hearing," he said.
