Three suspects nabbed for Aaron Makola murder
There has been a breakthrough in the case of slain Economic Freedom Fighters member Aaron Makola.
The Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) arrested three people aged 40, 42 and 44, after Makola’s body was discovered in Delmas last week.
He had been reported missing after he was last seen on 10 July.
At the time of the discovery, police said preliminary findings showed that Makola had been shot and killed before his lifeless body was later dumped in the bush.
National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the suspects are expected to make their first appearance before the Delmas Magistrates Court on Wednesday, where they will face charges of murder, kidnapping, and robbery.
THABANG MASEMOLA: ADDITIONAL CHARGES AGAINST ALLEGED HITMAN
Meanwhile, Mathe said at least two more murder charges could be added against the alleged trigger man in the case of murdered African National Congress member and Tshwane ward 10 councillor Thabang Masemola.
Masemola was shot and killed in the streets of Mamelodi in July last year.
Two people, including a woman who is believed to have played a role in planning the murder, previously appeared before the Mamelodi Magistrates Court following their arrest in May.
“The pair will reappear before the Mamelodi Magistrate's Court where the PKTT will link the hitman, 41-year-old Vusimuzi Champ Gebuza to two additional cases of murder and attempted murder of two other individuals. These cases all took place in Mamelodi in 2023 and 2024,”Mathe added.
The Gauteng PKTT was officially launched in March.
At the time, provincial police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni announced the establishment of two specialised units in Gauteng.
The mandate of the PKTT focuses on the investigation of political assassinations and politically motivated killings of government officials, while the second specialised unit focuses on crimes related to kidnappings, extortion and criminal activities targeting infrastructure projects.
