Three to appear over police ambush
Three people accused of ambushing police and killing another person are due to appear in the Mpumalanga Magistrate's Court on Thursday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
The three, aged between 24 and 28, were arrested near the Mpumalanga township near Pinetown on Tuesday, said Colonel Jay Naicker.
On October 31, police were responding to a complaint when they were ambushed in Sankontshe.
One police officer was shot and wounded in the incident. He was taken to hospital.
"The suspects fled the scene... When the members were attacked, they were attending to a murder case where 47-year-old Lucky Bhengu was found with multiple gunshot wounds in Sankontshe," said Naicker.
"It is suspected that he was shot by the same suspects who attacked the police."
The three face charges of murder and attempted murder.
Naicker could not provide an update on the wounded officer.
