A Johannesburg woman was arrested at Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday morning after a significant amount of the drug tik, worth about R1.4 million, was found in her luggage, police said.
The woman had arrived from OR Tambo International Airport when members of the border police’s anti-drug smuggling team conducted random searches of passengers’ luggage.
“Upon searching the suitcase of a 28-year-old Johannesburg woman they found various packages wrapped in a baby fleece blanket,” police spokesman FC van Wyk said.
“Five kg of Tik with an estimated street value of R1.4 million was seized.”
She was expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s court on Wednesday on a charge of dealing in drugs.
