The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) says an investigation has been launched into the CCTV footage that has gone viral on social media and appears to show metro police officers pulling a woman out of her car.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening and depicts four officials forcefully removing the woman out of her vehicle at a petrol station.

It is not clear exactly what led to the incident, with reports that the woman refused to stop at a road block in the Lyttleton area and chose to rather pull over at a well lit petrol filling station.

TMPD spokesperson, Isaac Mahamba, has confirmed that the officers in the video are Tshwane metro officials.

"We are aware of the video and the incident that took place on the mentioned dates and times. We can confirm the members seen on video are TMPD members."

"At this stage an internal investigation is continuing and we have since obtained statements from both complainant and affected members," adds Mahamba.

TMPD adds that statements from both the metro officials and the woman have been retrieved.

A police investigation is also underway.
