Health experts have warned of a possible second wave of Covid-19 infections if South Africans do not adhere to health precautions under the more relaxed lockdown regulations.

Secretary-general of the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) Zwelinzima Vavi, who himself managed to recover from Covid-19, says although the move to level one is a relief, South Africans must continue to err on the side of caution.

“It is a welcome relief and we are worried just like the government says it is worried about a second wave. That is why our call will be to our people to say do not let your guard down. Continue to wear your mask, social distance, wash hands, live hygienic lives and share with the poorest."

National spokesperson for the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) Sizwe Pamla says South Africans should remain vigilant as Covid-19 remains a threat to the country.
