Traffic disruptions in Sandton
Updated | By ANA
Metro police have warned motorists of traffic disruptions in the Sandton area due to the dry-runs being done ahead of the EcoMobility World Festival kicking off in October.
“The traffic will be affected from peak time this morning. As much as there is a lots of construction taking place in the Sandton area in addition to the dry runs, JRA will be looking at the road closures closely,” JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Edna Mamonyane said.
The City of Johannesburg said it would be hosting the EcoMobility World Festival during October 2015.
“During this month-long event certain roads in Sandton will be closed to regular traffic while additional bus lanes and cycle lanes will be in place,” City of Johannesburg spokesperson Wonder Dlamini said.
Dlamini said dry runs to test the efficiency of the traffic measures will be conducted during the morning and afternoon peak hours on Tuesday.
Motorists are warned that there would be changes to normal traffic flow including the introduction of dedicated public transport lanes.
“Certain routes leading into the Sandton CBD will be affected, including Republic Road, William Nicol Drive, Sandton Drive and Katherine Street,” Dlamini said.
The changes are set to be in place by from 6am to 9am on Tuesday morning, and again from 3.30pm to 7pm.
The City urges all road users to be patient and courteous towards fellow travellers.
“Please be on the lookout to changes that are made to existing roads, follow the signage and obey the directions from officials and marshals.”
