Updated | By Algoa News
A young lioness that escaped from her enclosure last month has been
found and euthanised.
The 18-month-old animal escaped in the early hours of the morning on the 23rd of September, allegedly due to load shedding.
The lioness escaped her enclosure about 5km from Ventersburg towards Virginia.
A search team consisting of police and Nature Conservation officials eventually spotted her on Saturday evening.
Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli says a local farmer reported a loss of 15 pigs, and an investigation is underway to establish if they were killed by the same animal.
He says the animal was spotted next to the area where it escaped. All attempts were made for a successful capture but it had to be put down.
