Train blocks R36 Road in Limpopo between Morebeng and Mooketsi
The Limpopo Community Safety and Transport Department has urged motorists to avoid the R36 between Morebeng and Mooketsi, where a stationary train is blocking the road, resulting in a full closure since Friday night.
Preliminary reports indicate the train may have suffered a burst axle, resulting in the obstruction.
Law enforcement officials and members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) are on site directing traffic and ensuring motorists’ safety.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has issued guidance for drivers.
"Motorists traveling from Morebeng to Botlokwa or Makhado should use the R81 via Munnik. Drivers heading from Botlokwa or Makhado to Tzaneen or Giyani should also follow the R81 via Munnik (P41)."
Authorities have urged drivers to follow officers' on-site instructions, allow extra travel time, and avoid the affected section of the R36.
