Transnet Freight Rail announces resignation of CEO Siza Mzimela

Sizakele Mzimela has resigned from her position as Transnet Freight Rail CEO.
She will be leaving the state-owned company at the end of October.
Mzimela's resignation comes days after CEO Portia Derby and CFO Nonkululeko Dlamini exited the company.
She joined the operating division of Transnet in April 2020.
In a statement released on Thursday, Transnet said Russell Baatjies will take over as the acting CEO from 1 November while the recruitment process is underway.
"Until recently, Mr. Baatjies was the Managing Executive for the Cape Corridor. He has previously held the role of General Manager for the Iron Ore and Manganese Business Unit at TFR, a position he held since 2017.
“Under his leadership, the IOM team’s achievements include the implementation of the world’s longest production train and the highest manganese volumes transported at 15.5 million tons.
“Other previous senior roles he has held at Transnet include Regional Executive as well as Local Business Manager at Transnet Engineering.”
Business Day reported that TFR’s worsening performance largely drove Transnet’s R5.7bn loss for the 2022/23 financial year.
