Updated | By Neo Motloung
Transnet has confirmed that the embattled state-owned company's board has suspended two senior executives.
Thamsanqa Jiyane the chief officer for advanced manufacturing and engineering and Lindiwe Mdletshe the senior manager for strategic sourcing for freight rail,
They were served with suspension letters on Thursday following a meeting of the Transnet board.
The board asked the two to present their cases on why they should not be suspended.
Transnet Spokesperson Molatwane Likhethe says both employees are implicated in multiple investigations commissioned by the board.
"Further investigations will carry on, and only when those have been concluded, I'm sure, the next steps will be announced by the board," says Likhethe.
The two are implicated on the controversial awarding of the 1 064 Locomotives Acquisition tender, the value of which escalated to more than R54 billion.
