Gauteng MEC for Transport, Jacob Mamabolo is set to intervene after a taxi shooting on Monday morning in Olievenhoutbosch, south of Tshwane left one person dead and others injured.

Mamabolo says the police still needed to provide clarity on the circumstances around the shooting, but it was clear that at least one taxi association from Alexandra in Johannesburg was affected.

"We will be contacting the SPAS to establish the basic fact about what could possibly have happened here so that when we take action, we take action based on facts, even if it's preliminary facts," says Mamabolo.

Mamabolo said this action could be closing down all taxi operations in the area, or banning a specific taxi association form operation there.

Mamabolo had previously closed the taxi routes in Olievenhoutbosch with busses provided for members of the public.
