Transport minister ‘notes’ Comair suspension
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) temporarily suspended Comair’s Operator's licence on Saturday on a precautionary basis for 24-hours.
The grounding of flights from Kulula and British Airways comes after a series of mid-air emergencies.
Spokesperson for the Transport Department Lawrence Venkile says they are aware of the suspension as a precautionary measure.
“The Minister of Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula has noted the decision of the South African Civil Aviation Authority to suspend the operator's certificate of Comair as a precautionary measure.
“The regulator took this decision independently in line with its mandate to oversee aviation safety, following a series of safety incidents involving British Airways Comair and Kulula.com.”

Venkile adds that the country has a safety record that should be maintained.
“South Africa is an impeccable aviation safety record insofar as airline operations are concerned. This is due to our robust aviation safety regime and the vigilance exercises in ensuring full compliance by the airlines.”
