Three suspects have appeared at the Kabokweni Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga in connection with the murder case that has gripped the country.
The mutilated body of 6-year-old Bontle Mashiyane was discovered in a shallow grave in Mganduzweni near White River at the weekend.
Mashiyane went missing last month.
The suspects, including a woman, her boyfriend and a parolee who were all Bontle's neighbours, face four charges of kidnapping, human trafficking, rape and murder.
According to provincial police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala, the trio opted against applying for bail.
“Collen Hlongwane (36), Thapelo Ngomane (25) and Ntombi Mgwenya (40) were remanded in custody until 24 June, as they applied for legal aid assistance,” Mohlala confirmed.
“Their next appearance will be held at Masoyi Periodical Court.”
Speculation is rife that the murder is linked to muthi killings.
