Tshwane commuters left in the lurch as Numsa, Samwu down tools

Commuters in Tshwane will have to do without municipal busses on Wednesday after unions Numsa and Samwu decided to down tools.
Workers affiliated to the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) are expected to embark on a strike at Extremetec on Wednesday.
The agency is responsible for fare collection services for the Areyeng bus rapid transit system in Tshwane.
Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says the workers’s core demand revolves around a transport allowance.
“Workers at Extremetec have to arrive at work at 4am, they knock off at 9pm and there is no reliable transport available at that time. Workers spend a fortune paying for transport in order to make it to and from work.
"Our members are demanding a transport allowance of R2500 and a nightshift allowance of R60 per hour."
Samwu members have also downed tools.
The strike, which began on Tuesday, is expected to affect commuters through Wednesday.
The reason for the strike is unclear.
