Tshwane EMS on high alert as Level 4 storm warning issued
Updated | By Selaki Ledwaba
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services has warned residents to continue to remain alert following a Yellow Level 4 warning issued by the South African Weather Service.

SAWS has confirmed scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers over most parts of Gauteng due to a cut-off low-pressure system situated over the central interior of the country.
This cut-off low-pressure system is expected to move slowly eastwards and is likely to exit the country by Saturday.
Tshwane Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Lidsay Mguni urged residents to stay indoors and away from metal objects that conduct electricity, which may be hit by lightning.
“The severe thunderstorms are expected to persist from about 13:00 until about midnight on Thursday, 24 April 2025, with 80% chances of rain occurring in Tshwane.”
“The impact of severe thunderstorms may include large amounts of small hail over an open area, damaging winds and excessive lightning, which may result in house or other structural fires,” Mguni said.
He added that traffic might be disrupted due to flooded roads and localised service disruptions caused by power failures and other damage to critical infrastructure.

He assured the public that the EMS is still monitoring the weather reports and remains on high alert throughout the City for any related emergencies to protect life and property.
Speaking to the SABC, the weather service assured the public that these weather conditions are not unusual during this time of the year.
