Tshwane given two days to provide Hammanskraal with alternative water: SAHRC
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has given
the City of Tshwane until Friday to provide residents with alternative portable
water in the Hammanskraal area.
This comes after the Commission held a community meeting with the Hammanskraal residents to provide feedback on the Commission's intervention over the past year into the water crisis in the area.
SAHRC's Buang Jones says should the city fail to provide alternative drinkable water, the Commission will have no choice but to take Tshwane to court.
"It is regrettable that the regulator had to drag the city to court in order for the city to fulfil its legal and constitutional obligations," says Jones.

Jones adds the Commission will commence with its inquiry into the water issues in the area.
"This investigative inquiry will broadly look at the state of water treatment plants in the City of Tshwane, their impact on water quality and other fundamental rights."
