Tshwane hopes new fleet will improve service delivery, save costs

The City of Tshwane has added 20 new specialised vehicles to its fleet – something it hopes will save it money while at the same time improve service delivery.

The city has had to refute claims over the past few weeks that service delivery in the city has collapsed due to the ongoing political impasse and the expiration of one of the metro’s core service delivery tenders.
The tenders to lease construction vehicles, refuse removal trucks and specialist yellow plant machines as well as equipment, expired at the start of September.
Tshwane’s head administrator Mpho Nawa says the new fleet of vehicles will not only help turnaround the city’s finances, but also ensure services are provided to the residents of Tshwane.
"At the centre of these trucks is to reduce the cost of running government. Ordinarily on one day if you are to hire this car, you would pay R10 000.
"Within the year we would have concluded paying for these cars, increased the capacity, retained jobs and provided better services," Nawa said at the unveiling of the fleet at Tshwane House on Tuesday.
The city is expected to eventually increase the capacity of the specialised fleet to 434.
