Tshwane may have to rope in Metro Police to empty dustbins

The City of Tshwane says it may have to rope in the services of the capital’s Metro Police officers to help collect waste in and around the city.
Waste collection in Tshwane came to a grounding halt following the appointment of a new service provider on Monday.
City spokesperson, Selby Bokaba, says a group named the “Business Forum” is demanding that the new service provider sub contract its services to them.
“We are experiencing a waste collection challenge since the beginning of this week. Since this week we appointed a new contractor on Monday and there’s a grouping of people under the name Business Forum that demands that there be subcontracted.

“So, they have decided to disrupt waste collection across the city and have blocked the land fill site. The waste management division is having a meeting with Metro Police in a moment to see how they can assist so that we can be able to render services. If it means that the Metro Police can escort the waste collection trucks, but we don’t want to pre-empt the outcome of that meeting.”
Bokaba says a decision to get assistance from the Tshwane Metro Police Department will be communicated soon.
