Tshwane residents warned to be vigilant amid weekend heatwave
The City of Tshwane’s emergency services urged residents to prepare for heatwave conditions over the weekend.
Some forecasters have predicted temperatures could reach up to 40 degrees celsius.
“We call on residents to be aware of adverse effects that may be caused by extended exposure to extreme heat weather conditions.
“We further call on residents to be vigilant and immediately report any fire or rescue incident,” said Tshwane spokesperson Lindsay Mnguni.
The South African Weather Service forecasted a maximum temperature of 36 degrees for Pretoria on Saturday.

The weather service issued a heatwave advisory for Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Gauteng, Free State, North West, as well eastern parts of the north-eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
The persistently high temperature was expected to last until Monday.
HEATWAVE TIPS:
- Stay hydrated, avoid excessive consumption of caffeinated, alcoholic beverages
- Time outdoor activities for cooler parts of the day
- Check on vulnerable individuals such as the elderly, children, and those living with existing health conditions
- Wear protective clothing such as hats, sunglasses
- Use sunscreen
