Tshwane urges nightclubs to comply with municipal bylaws
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
City of Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has urged nightclubs and bars in the metro to comply with municipal bylaws.
This after four establishments were temporarily closed with various fines issued to non-compliant businesses.
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) led a multistakeholder by-law enforcement operation targeting nightclubs and bars in Lynnwood and Hatfield over the past weekend.
The operation also included the Emergency Services Department (ESD), Local Economic Development, Health Department and other departments.
The operation also focused on the City of Tshwane's safety regulations and national building legislation.
These regulations are in place to protect patrons, employees and the surrounding communities from potential hazards and disturbances.
Brink has called on businesses to either comply with the laws, or face closure.
"During the operation, the team identified several violations, including overcrowding, inadequate fire safety measures, noise pollution and the absence of necessary permits. These establishments will remain closed until they have rectified the issues and can demonstrate full compliance with all relevant regulations.
"The City of Tshwane urges all business owners to familiarise themselves with the applicable legislation, including by-laws, and to ensure that their establishments meet all safety and regulatory standards.
"The City is committed to supporting compliant businesses and fostering a safe and vibrant nightlife for all."
