It comes after the Water and Sanitation Department lifted water restrictions in Gauteng

The province has been severely affected by the ongoing drought and only recently received the first good rains in months.

Tshwane mayoral spokesperson Samkelo Mgobozi says: "We have conditionally lifted the water restrictions, as we think it is important and prudent to get citizens into a culture of conserving water so that we don't find ourselves in the same situation as we did in November last year."

He says there will be a lot less limitations on the amount of water can use.

"However we call on residents to continue to use water sparingly as we are still in a drought."

Member of the Mayoral Committee for Infrastructure, Darryl Moss says all restrictions except for one have been lifted: "We maintain residents should not irrigate gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler between 06:00 and 18:00, people are only allowed to do so between 18:00 and 22:00."

Tshwane's water restrictions were in effect from 13 September 2016.

The Department of Water and Sanitation confirmed Tshwane had achieved the required 15% water reduction as required.

Meanwhile, there's still no respite for Cape Town amid the ongoing drought, with dams quickly drying up.
