Two arrested for the brutal Limpopo double murder

Police in Polokwane have arrested two suspects aged 30 and 35 for the murders of a local businesswoman and her elderly mother.

Lizette Deacon and her mother Hettie were allegedly attacked and stabbed by the suspects in their house at Welgelegen in Polokwane on Thursday night.


Police say the two victims were then tied them up and put in the back of their SUV.


The vehicle with the bodies was found abandoned next to the R37 road between Polokwane and Lebowakgomo on the same night.


Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says both suspects were arrested on Sunday morning.


"The first suspect aged 35, was arrested in Mokgoopong at about 02h35 and the second one in Polokwane at about 08h00," says Mojapelo.


The suspects will appear in the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday facing charges of two counts of murder and house robbery.


"The 35-year-old suspect will also face a charge under the Immigration Act as he is in the country illegally," adds Mojapelo.


He says their investigation continues and police expect to make more arrests.

Lizette Deacon (55) and her 70-year-old mother Hettie Deacon were the owners of a local Ocean Basket franchise. Limpopo police spokesperson Motlafela Mojapelo says a neighbour spotted traces of blood in the home when her went to visit them on Thursday night. Both the victims were missing.
