The police in Limpopo arrested two suspects on Monday in connection with the murder of Mogalakwena Residents Association chairperson Piet Pale.
The 50-year-old Limpopo community leader was shot three times and killed in what has been described as a political hit nearly a decade ago.
Pale was fatally wounded while driving his vehicle at Hospital View in Mahwelereng in June 2014.
Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says circumstances that led to his death were unclear at the time.
"A high-level team of investigators dealing with political killings in Waterberg district was ordered to trace and arrest the suspects.
"Following thorough investigations, the suspects were linked to the murder case and were arrested on Monday, 24 July 2023," says Ledwaba.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Mahwelereng Magistrate's Court on Tuesday morning.
They are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police investigations are still ongoing.
