Two children electrocuted in Joburg

The children, aged three and five-years-old, were electrocuted after they stumbled on exposed live wires of illegal connection on Saturday.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says at least 21 electrocution cases have been reported in the past two financial years, with six of them happening this year.
“City Power would again like to warn residents against the dangers of illegal connections, a team has been dispatched to the area to investigate. Mangolongolo is one of the hotspots of illegal connections in the City of Johannesburg, were our infrastructure, including streetlights, have been vandalised.
“Our Revenue Protection Unit has in the past conducted cut off operations, and educational campaigns in the area around the dangers of illegal connections. Not only are illegal connections deadly as proven here, but they cost the city millions in lost revenue.”
