The two, a constable and a captain, were arrested in connection with the murder of student Katlego Monareng on Monday.

The shooting happened after violence erupted at the university following Student Representative Council (SRC) elections.

Students alleged the elections were rigged.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate's (Ipid) Moses Dlamini says the officers claimed they fired warning shots into the ground with R5 rifles.

"The IPID has concluded its investigation, only two technical reports are outstanding," says Dlamini.

The two cops are expected to appear in the Soshanguve Magistrates Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.
