Two Mogwase escapees re-arrested
Two of the 10 awaiting trial prisoners who escaped from the Mogwase Prison have been re-arrested, North West police said on Friday.
Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said escapees Lloyd Munungu and Joseph Mlambo were re-arrested in Koster on 21 June 2016.
"They appeared in the Mogwase Magistrate’s Court on a charge of escaping from lawful custody on Thursday last week. They will appear in court again on Tuesday, 19 July 2016," he said.
The pair escaped on 17 June along with Oscar Sibiya, Luckymore Mutasa, Mandla Mokoena, Emmanuel Banda Hobe, Chris Sithole, Knowledge Benny Machesa, Alfonso Alfred Mpofu and Cleophus Tapiwa.
They escapees are facing serious offences including murder, aggravated robbery, house robbery, attempted murder, burglary and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The cases are being investigated by police in Zeerust, Mooinooi, Hartbeesfontein, Brits and Rustenburg.
One of the escapees, Knowledge Benny Machesa, is wanted for crimes committed in Bela-Bela in Limpopo.
"The community is urged to assist with information that may lead to the re-arrest of the eight escapees by contacting Ezekiel Rakodi on 079 881 9905," Colonel Mokgwabone said.
The department of correctional services said the suspects escaped through a bathroom window onto the roof. It was thought that they used sheets to abseil and disappear at about 01:00 AM on June 17.
