Gauteng police have arrested two suspects believed to be linked to the murder of Ditebogo Junior Phalane in Soshanguve.
The 5-year-old was killed on Friday during a hijacking incident outside their home in Soshanguve.
It is reported that Ditebogo was shot while welcoming his father home.
Both suspects are facing a charge of an unlicensed firearm, with a possibility of more charges being added.
Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mothombeni says the third suspect is still on the run.
"As we pounced into that house, we could not find the suspects, we found the vehicle. This vehicle is reported stolen in Mabopane and it is a vehicle that is linked to the commission of the crime where the 5-year-old was fatally wounded."
Mothombeni briefed the media on the developments in the case on Thursday morning.
He said more arrests are imminent.
"One of the suspect was found in the street based on the information which we had. He was found on the section which is next to where the crime was committed.
"One of the suspects is a South African, but we believe that the others that police are pursuing are not South Africans".
He said police believe that they have arrested the right suspects.
"On the crime scene, we picked up two cartridges which we have already sent to ballistics and, of course, the two firearms which we have now from the two suspects, there will be an investigation in terms of ballistics."
Both suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
